I have an AT&T email account. I installed outlook 2007 with windows vista.
follwed all the settings since I have done this with XP & 2000 version of
outlook before.
on one day I was able to download messages but was not available to send.
Today no sending or receiving happens.
when setting up email, the test account option shows that sending and
receiving are fine in outlook. when I access my AT&T via webmail the test
messages show up indicating messages are going out. RSS feeds download. But
when I manually hit send receive the progress bar just hangs about with
nothing happening for hours.

Can some one help?

Describe the settings you are using. Is this a broadband service?

From what I have seen the last few days, your problem seems to be that
Outlook just sucks. Save yourself some headaches and just get another
program. I am.

Incoming pop server ipostoffice.worldnet.att.net
outgoing server(smtp)imailhost.worldnet.att.net
ports set at 995 & 465 with ssl encryption
connecting via lan.
I am on wireless home network through which I can connect all other internet
activity
I have also turned off email scanning inbound and outbound on norton as a
precaution.

Does it work if you use postoffice.worldnet.att.net and
mailhost.worldnet.att.net and the standard ports, making sure you
authenticate to the SMTP server?

Does not work with settings you note. Interestingly, when you click test
account settings, it indicates succesful logon for incoming as well as test
message outbound. That is validated when I pick up via webmail. It is just
that in the real world when you hit send receive, the progress bar for send
receive shows it preparing to send receive with nothing moving forward for
hours.

Enable diagnostic logging and see if anything stands out.
