I have recently upgraded to Office 2007 Ultimate and have moved from Outlook
Express to Outlook 2007 - which I love

When I start up my computer I am able to access Outlook without any problems

But

If I close the program at any time, I CANNOT open it again unless I reboot.
I have run diagnostics and all looks fine there.

Any suggestions??

After you closed it wait 5 mins, then open the task manager (right-click
on a free area of the Windows taskbar and select Task Manager). Is
outlook.exe still listed under the process tab? If it is, can you reopen
Outlook after you quit that process?

Ty Patrick I shall check that out next time it happens. I do recall that
when I did close down each time it said that outlook was still open. So I
will look out for that if it occurs again.
I did a second diagnostic check yesterday after I left my post and It seems
to have picked something up which it repaired. From then on it seems to be
working fine.

Thanks for your help

Jade :-)

After a reboot (before opening Outlook for the first time), go into
Start, Run and type "outlook /safe". That will open Outlook in safe
mode. Leave it open for a while, then close. Check in task manager if it
is still there. Let us know whether it is or not.

My applogies Patrick, my last post should have read it DOES NOT show up as
running in task manager but when i go to reboot, there is the End Task Window
with Outlook exe at the top of it.

When I reboot Outlook does indeed open in safe mode and when I close it I am
able to reopen it in normal mode. But I will check the task manager as you
said and let you know.

Did you ever fix this? If so what was the outcome. I have noticed outlook
being a little wierd after an upgrade. Only fix I came up with was to back up
the .pst and do a clean install. Let me know if you found a better way. Thanks

Still doing it, and when i shut down the computer it goes through the End
Program motion but it hangs and I have to end it by clicking on the end now
button.
Its bizzare and Im not impressed with it at all.

I am having the same problem with the exception that I have been using
Office 2007 for approximately 1 year. My problem begam after I ran a
Microsoft update. I am using Vista ultimate. I did a retore and the problem
still exist. Another intersting side bar is that after the microsoft update I
also tried to upgrade from Symantec Internet Security 2007 to Symantec
Internet Security 2008 and the installed failed and no longer have Symantec
Internet Security. I had symantec work on installing it for 6 hours and they
could not. I do not dare try to install another program. My guess is that
the problem was caused by a Microsoft update.

I am wondering if this is a Vista update problem or both Vista & XP. What
Microsoft Operating system are you using?

I am also having this problem. I am running Vista Home Premium and Outlook
2007, but this also happened to me when I was running Outlook 2003 under
vista. It seems to happen when the computer goes into sleep or hibernate
mode. when it wakes up the program will not open even though the task
manager shows it running. It also shows multiple entries in the task
manager. When I close the listing with the larges kb's then outlook will
open.
