Have recently loaded Windows Vista premium and Microsoft Office 2007 Basic
edition onto my system, but for some reason Outlook 2007 is nowhere to be
found on my system. Have tried re-loading it, but it doesn't exist yet it is
on the disc, and should be included with office basic. Can anyone shed some
light?

When you run the installation procedure and examine the icon next to
Outlook, does it show as "Not Available"? If so, click the icon and change
it to "Run from My Computer".

Hi, thanks for that. I tried it, but it says "not available" alongside
Outlook, and won't let me do anything with it. I do have Outlook 2003
loaded, and having read other similar problems on this site, I note that some
previous advice was to remove Outlook 2003 and load 2007. I'm afraid to lose
all of my contacts etc, as my email system is very important to me for my
business. If removing outlook 2003 is the only option, then I guess I'll
have to try it. What do you think?

Thanks, yes I have 2003 installed, and have just read other peoples answers
to similar problems, advising them to remove the previous edition. Am afraid
to do this, I will be honest. I am 75% computer literate, but with some
things I'm out of my depth!
What's your opinion, and how do I save all my previous contacts, emails etc?
Many thanks for your help,
Julie

Only a single version of Outlook can be installed.
If you want to install OL2007 you will have to uninstall the earlier
version.

Your outlook data file should not be damaged when uninstalling, however you
should allways have a backup.
The data file is a hidden file, by default outlook.pst allthough it could be
anything.pst so search, to include hidden, for *.pst then copy (with OL
closed) any files found to eg My Documents.

MS have a free backup addin; available on the OL site

Thank you so much for all your help, very much appreciated! I did as you
said, and Outlook 2007 is working brilliantly, and I have all my contacts and
mail! Easy when you know how!
Thanks again,
Julie

What is your fear? Uninstalling one version of Outlook and installing
another doesn't touch mail profiles (which are in the Registry) and doesn't
touch Outlook Personal Folders files (which are not in the Office
installation folders). However, to allay your fears, make a backup of your
PST.

Thank you for your advice, I have removed outlook 2003 and installed 2007
without any problems, and all my files are intact. Thanks very much for all
your help,
Julie
