Outlook 2007 is using the default beep instead of the "new mail" sound event.
This is occurring in Windows XP Pro x64.

See if changing the sound used for new email via Control Panel helps. If it
does then try changing it back.

Now it plays no sound at all. Step backward in my opinion. Also, Isn't
Outlook 2007 supposed to have the "ribbon" like the rest of the suite? The
main windows does not and when I compose a message it is there, but if I
select an alternate account to send the message, it reverts to the XP style
titlebar. This only occurs in Windows XP x64.

I need to report this as a bug, but there are no bug reporting mechanisms
that I can find for the public preview.

Carlos,

I was also recieving this problem. It was driving me crazy! Changing it in
the control panel to another sound works with the new sound, but when changed
back no sound is played.

I thought perhaps the file was corrupted, but it plays OK in the Sounds and
Audio Devices dialogue and also when played manually with Windows Media
Player.

The solution is to copy the origional notify file (C:\WINDOWS\Media\Windows
XP Notify.wav) to a new file name (e.g. Windows XP New Mail.wav), then
re-select it in the Sounds and Audio Devices dialogue.
