When I attempt to send a message by clicking 'file' then 'new' and then in
the message window 'to' thereby adding an email address directly from my
contact list, outlook temporarily hangs and refuses to send the message. I
have to shut down outlook and delete the message before i can regain proper
control of the programme. If i cut and paste the address into the 'to box
from the address book the message can be sent as normal. Can anybody suggest
what the problem is and a possible solution, please.

More complete information would be helpful. I suspect there is more here
than you have revealed. Symptoms suggest you have not configured the Outlook
Addressing Service correctly. Since Outlook 2007 is new, I suspect you
migrated data to this installation and did not create in anew. I would
suggest you reveal how you migrated your data and how you configured the
Outlook Address Service to use it.

Yes, you are correct. I migrated the data from my pda that until I installed
office 2007 was synced with an outlook xp contacts folder. I haven't done
anything to configure it - I didn't know I had to since all the contacts
appeared correctly in the contact list. Interestingly if I use the email
button on the individuals contact form it also works fine.

I'd suggest examining how your Outlook Address Book is configured.
