Hi,

After the last Windows update (Vista Home Premium), msvcr80.dll could not be
found. After I copied it from the install CD to Office12, Outlook cannot
start, and generates the following event, which charges ntdll.dll:

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

- <System>

<Provider Name="Application Error" />

<EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID>

<Level>2</Level>

<Task>100</Task>

<Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>

<TimeCreated SystemTime="2007-06-15T12:37:49.000Z" />

<EventRecordID>14078</EventRecordID>

<Channel>Application</Channel>

<Computer>Laptop</Computer>

<Security />

</System>

- <EventData>

<Data>OUTLOOK.EXE</Data>

<Data>12.0.6014.5000</Data>

<Data>46031a52</Data>

<Data>ntdll.dll</Data>

<Data>6.0.6000.16386</Data>

<Data>4549bdc9</Data>

<Data>80000003</Data>

<Data>00042ea8</Data>

<Data>1188</Data>

<Data>01c7af49fba9fe02</Data>

</EventData>

</Event>

Office diagnostics find no problem, and Repair stalls because Machine Debug
Mgr cannot be stopped, while it is already not active.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have any Symantec (Norton) products installed? If yes, look on their support forums for assistance.

I had a similar problem BUT my Outlook 2007 hung up at the splash
screen. I spent the whole day with ms support and still could not get
Outlook to start!

Thanks Milly, but this does not apply to me. Any other idea?

How about Windows Defender?

You can try reinstalling Net Framework v2.

Thanks Diane,

I'm running Vista Home Premium, Net Framework v3 is built in.

Windows Defender is running in the background. How can it relate to my
problem ?

Well... according to a google search for msvcr80.dll, the error also happens
if Defender is installed and uninstalling Defender fixes it. If it works,
try the Defender forums and see if the experts their have a fix.
