I am using outlook 2003 with cox.net and it works fine, now I have outlook
2007 and outlook will not connect to smtp server I have cox home cable
service. Is there a work around or what is deferent with the way 2003 and
2007 that it will not authenticate to the smtp server. Thanks Ron

I have the same problem with a clean install of Outlook 2007 on a Vista OS
using Cox.net. I am thinking it is a port setting? From what I can find the
port settings vary by the area smpt server (east, central, west). Let me
know if you find a solution.

I'm having similar issues with hal-pc. Here's their response.

Yes Outlook 2007 will work with HAL-PC HOWEVER, it seems to have
issues or
"bugs" in that it will send multiple attempts to log in. Typically 3
attempts, two of which are erroneous.

Two people using HAL-PC are having this issue and they are
communicating with Microsoft to see what is happening with Outlook
2007. If you do get your Outlook 2007 configured properly it should
work well enough to get your emails. AGAIN, it will also be sending 2
other attempts to log in which result in errors "password incorrect"
errors on the mail system.

If you do contact Microsoft for help, ask them how to have Outlook 2007
only send "plain passwords" only in the one attempt as all other mail
clients do.

So, probably the best solution would be to contact MS.
