Outlook 2007 renaming categories stuck in a loop

I renamed the "general" category (and some others) to other names. Now the
status bar at the bottom of the widow says

Renaming "General" to "Ideas"...

every now and then it says

Renaming "General" to "Ideas"complete

but then it starts again. It has been doing this for about 3 weeks now. I
am concerned that Outlook is off corrupting some archive PST files or other -
or that it is stuck in a loop consuming cpu cycles.

Any suggestions as to how to get this process to finally complete would be
appreciated.

I'm having the same issue. It says "Renaming Template to Project". I can't
figure out how to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've had this problem ever since I installed Outlook 2007 and, to make things
more annoying, the problem has migrated to my new machines twice when I moved
the old settings across.

I also have observed this Outlook problem. I renamed "Blue Category" to a functional name, and Outlook appears to be continually renaming

ScanPST didn't work, but problem solved

Same problem, what a pain and no info at Microsoft, surprise. I have about 5 PSTs for different purposes. Tried Scanpst, it said a few had errors, but didn't solve the problem. After removing the PSTs I discovered that the primary PST for Personal Folders and 1 other was the problem.
  1. I renamed the Outlook.pst to OutlookORIG.pst.
  2. When I opened Outlook it prompted me to create a new Outlook.pst. Done
  3. Then I imported the entire contents of the orig I had renamed.
  4. Exited and reopened to test and renaming loop GONE
  5. I re-added the other PSTs one by one, waiting a few minutes (exit, open) to make sure it didn't appear until I discovered another was also causing the problem so did the same process - create new and import.
NOTE: All my custom categories were gone, HOWEVER, the contacts still has the categories which showed in Category View.

It's been 2 days opening and using Outlook lots, e-mails, calendar, contacts. I created a new category and applied using Quick Click. So far no problems.

Don't know how this affected 2 different PSTs, but there you have it.
Good luck.
Daniel
