I am running Outlook 2007 under Vista (having just migrated the lot
from 2003 under XP), and I find it very frustrating that the unread
(or for that matter, total emails) counts are not being updated
automatically for my 4 hotmail accounts (I know, I'm greedy, but I'm
not the only one who likes to keep seperate accounts for FleaBay,
Fiends Reignited etc). I send an email from my exchange account to
all four of them, Trillian tells me that new mail has arrived at the
one it monitors but Outlook doesn't even flinch. I perform a Send/
Receive, still nothing.

As soon as I click on the inbox (either in Favourites or in the Mail
Folders pane) the count updates like an embarassed security guard
woken from a slumber, but this really isn't very useful.

I know one person has raised this as an issue here before but the only
response he got was "works fine for me" which is, let's just say, less
than useful.

Anyone out there got a fix for it?

I promise to keep manually monitoring this account for replies :)

I'll be jiggered - found the problem, the accounts were not being
included in the send/receive action, despite being configured in the
"All Accounts" send/receive group. I added a new Send/Receive group
called, creatively, "Hotmail accounts", added these four to that
group, told it to include this group in the send/receive and hey-
presto we have updating email counts (at least every time it does a
send/receive, which is better than never).

I have, whilst playing around with the properties in the Favouites
folder, fooled Outlook to show me the unread email count as a green
number (the format it shows total emails usually) and that has
persisted after a restart of Outlook, so there are definitly some
minor bugs in there, but hey, I am a happier man and I just hope this
helps someone else out there.
