Outlook 2007 is freezing up on indexing contacts

When trying a search in Outlook 2007, I get the yellow banner that Outlook is
still indexing my contact files. But no progress occurs.
I imported an Outlook 2003 pst contact file to Outlook 2007: could that be
causing the problem?

Importing Outlook data is always a problem. You should never do it. Why did
you?
Have you waited until indexing has finished? Do that first. Only then can we
figure out what other problems you have unleashed by importing Outlook data.

I have Outlook 2003 at work and import my 611 contacts to my home systems
using Outlook 2007. Is there a better way to do this? I'm waiting hours for
the re-indexing to finish. Is this normal? Thanks.

No. It's not normal. But it may be because you imported your Contacts. If
the reindexing does not finish, then try repairing your PST file and try
again.

It's still re-indexing, little progress. I deleted all entries, ran
scanpst.exe against the Outlook 2003 file, which corrected one problem entry,
then imported the file to Outlook 2007 and this is still re-indexing.

Tried runnin scanpst.exe on the file on my memory card, then deleted the
Outlook 2007 entries and re-imported the "clean" file. It is still
re-indexing 13224 entries.

As Russ said NEVER import. Take a copy of the file from the other machine
and open it in on this machine, then drag then contacts to the new personal
folder

On your memory card?
Tell us the rest of the story. Why would a memory card be in play? It
shouldn't be.

Ok. The story:
I export from Outlook 2003 a Contacts pst file of 611 contacts. I put this
on a memory card.
I then import the same pst file, no encryption, with sub folders, to Outlook
2007.
Then I try to search for an entry and it gives an indexing message -- not
compete. Right now it is still indexing, after 24 hours, 13254 items in
Contacts.
So what gives?

OK, but don't quite understand this. Copy the .pst file as a right click on
the file and copy? Then paste to the Contacts personal folder?

Always good to provide all the necessary information. You never import and
export Outlook data unless you want to lose or corrupt your data, which you
have now done. To back up or transfer Outlook data you copy it to a PST
file, then open that file in the other installation. And never do so
directly from a memory card. Only from a hard drive.

OK, so now I have a corrupted Contact file. What do I do?
And exactly how do I copy over Contacts from another Windows computer, a la

Thanks,

If the Inbox Repair Tool cannot fix it, then you should restore from a
backup. Transferring a PST file is simple. Just use Windows explorer to copy
the file to the other hard drive, then open it in the other installation of
Outlook (File > Open). If you need to use transfer medium to transfer the
file to the other hard drive, make sure you remove the read only attribute
the file acquires.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

I have the same problem, indexing never finishes. How else would one get
their contacts into Outlook? I imported them from a pst from Office 2003.
Indexing did not ever complete. I reinstalled Office, that did not solve the
issue and was then told to restore my computer, still did not resolve the
issue.

Weekly, I exoort all of my Outlook data to a pst for back up, is this not
the correct back up methood for Outlook?
