Is it just me, or is Outlook 07 a big hog of my resources? At times it seems
to take like a full minute to "open" up the app, when I restart....

And sometimes I get that "sorry, the Personal Folders area might have been
damaged, so we have to check that" and then the app churns and churns for
like 5 minutes. Why does that happen when I just normally do the Start >
Restart process...ie does it not close down properly?

As you can tell btw, I'm an OE guy now since w2k....but wanted to move "up"
to Outlook....but the cost in performance has me secong guessing...

Help here lads?

if outlook doesn't close properly, it will be slower to start. Are you using
any apps or add-ins that access outlook data? That's the usual cause of
outlook not closing properly.

don't think of outlook as moving up from OE - it's a PIM. Now decide if you
need a PIM or just a simple email client. OE is fine for email.... it works,
its fast, it meets the needs of the typical home user. If you need
calendaring or tasks, then OE won't do, unless you use Vista. If you have
Vista the choice is more about the extra Outlook features since Vista's
calendar is quite nice.

I'm running Outlook 2007 on an old, slow laptop, and it starts up in 15
seconds. Did you install Windows Live Search or any of the Microsoft
add-ons that come on the second Office CD, or permit integration of a
third-party firewall's spam filter with Outlook?

Also, have you applied the Outlook performance fix made available a few
months ago through Office Update and Microsoft Update?
