I get almost to the end and get "access denied." I have disabled the
download, but I would like to test the instant search feature. Is there a
fix for this?

Been there, done that. It still will not install. I have change the
permissions for .ps and .mll (the only two showing as denied in the log
file), yet I still cannot install it.

Hi,

Try running a Detect and Repair of Office through the Control Panel>
Add/Remove PRograms.
Then try installing the instant search.

Also, can you provide me the errors that came up in the log?

Windows Desktop Search:- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917013

Since a lot of files are shared between these two programs, it could be hard
to trace out the error. Send the errors obtained with the log file.

Thanks,

Mittu

Now I have another issue with Instant Search. The program will not install
on 64-bit systems. Is there a 64-bit version somewhere?

Microsoft has released a new version of WDS 3.0 search. Anyone having problems with searching in Outlook 2007 on Windows XP or Windows 2003 should try it: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917013

It supports x64 versions of those operating systems and lets you pick the folders you want to index, including Outlook folders in the Indexing Options applet in Control Panel. It also provides a Windows taskbar search interface.
