Outlook 2007 HTML format and saving messages

The way Outlook 2007 handles HTML has changed in version 2007. I don't like
a couple of the changes and would like to reverse these if possible.

1) How can I direct Outlook to use HTML as the default message format but
NOT use Microsoft Word? There used to be an option to select, or deslect
Microsoft Words as the message editor. I do not want to use Microsoft Word.

2) Even more annoying, how can I save messages as HTML format WITHOUT saving
a corresponding folder of images ? I absolutely HATE that and will consider
using another email program if I can't change this behavior. I don't want my
data folders polluted with a bunch of folders linked to HTML files. I want a
single file and don't care about the image files at all. Is MHT the only
choice now?

I'm considering reverting to Office 2003.. This new version can't possibly
make people more productive or cut costs.. Not to mention the utter
instability of Outlook..

Thanks
Bryan

1) Nope, any reason for this? Note that is is a completely new editor that
cannot directly be compared with either the previous Outlook or Word mail
editor.

2) mht, msg, txt. Open the message in a browser (see the Action menu when
opening the message) and you'd be having even more options including a
stripped html-file (no images)
Not to mention the utter instability of Outlook.
You mean the instability of your installed addins? It's pretty d*mn hard to
crash Outlook on its own in a properly configured environment.

My experience with Outlook and the Word editor is that it's slower and
less stable, Word crashes and there goes your message. I don't need
all those features in Word anyway ... There's 3 reasons for ya'.

Ah.. But that's an additional step.. Further reducing my productivity..

Nah.. I don't mean that at all. I have no add-ins (well except the
Outlook Connector) .. I'm running Vista Ultimate, 3GB ram, Office
Ultimate.Very clean environment. I'm a former Microsoft Support
Engineer with more experience with the desktop products than most. I
spent 10 years in tech support on the phones for Mr. Softie... I think I
can configure the PC and just about any application fairly well,
Microsoft or otherwise.

It's a standard installation and I have to be very careful how quickly I
click around the interface so as to not piss it off .. otherwise it
gets confused and reports "Not Responding".. and never comes back.. It
sometimes configures send/receive on it's own - creating two
Send/Receive actions for the same account.. Then cleans it up.. It's
much slower. It's constantly dropping connections to IMAP servers.
I've reinstalled the O/S from scratch on a brand new Lenovo laptop..
Same issues.. This version is clearly the most unstable (but indeed
the prettiest) version of Outlook ever developed.. and I've been using
Outlook since before it was released to the public, all versions,
numerous and multiple accounts setup.. Outlook 2003 on XP never gave me
any problems with the same accounts. This one is completely the
opposite. But it IS pretty.. :) I know what I'm doing and naturally I
avoid add-ins where possible..

Maybe it's Vista - "the NEW Millenium Edition (based on the NT code base
of course)"...

Frankly I'm not at all happy with any of the new MSFT products.. Except
their interfaces.. Neither are any of my customers..

MVP.. ;)

Thanks for the info... FWIW
