We use Outlook 2003 but one of my computers just had Office 2007
installed with Outlook 2007. I have found that when I am in Outlook
2007 and bring up one of my personal distribution lists from my
contacts file in the send box and click on the plus sign, the list is
blank (only semicolons appear). The message will not send even if I
don't click on the plus sign. I contacted our IT person and he tested
his distribution list in Outlook 2007 and it worked fine. He
suggested that my profile might be causing the problem and so I
reinstalled it. The distribution list worked fine and then the next
day, I couldn' t get it to work.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Thanks,
BHJr

No information here. State what information store you are using and how this
DL was created.

I have exactly the same problem. I created my DL in Outlook 2003, but
recreated in 2007. I still have the same problem. Is there no solution?

Depends. Care to provide the information I requested, including how you
migrated this DL from 2003 to 2007 and how you are selecting the recipient?

Assuming that DL is distribution list, I did not migrate it as it is
on Microsoft Exchange and I created it a number of years ago, most
recently using with my My Outlook 2003. So, when I am logged on to
Outlook using a computer with 2003, it works fine. The problem is
when I am logged on to my computer with Outlook 2007 and I access my
contacts and DL. Emailing single contacts works fine but I can't send
a DL even if I create a new one in Outlook 2007.

When you say you need more info about the info store, are you
referring to some properties of the Exchange Server?

Actually, I migrated the DL from Outlook 2000, not 2003. I installed the MS
Office 2007 Suite, which included Outlook, over the MS Office 2000 Suite. I
did not uninstall the old Suite first. Anyway, the new Outlook (2007)
installation captured all the settings from my old pst file, including my
DLs. After I discovered the described problem, I deleted the DL and
recreated the DL in Outlook 2007, but had the same result - semicolons
instead of names when I expanded the DL. I recreated the DL by opening
Contacts, right-clicking in the open area, and selecting "New Distribution
List". I named the DL and selected "Select Members" from the "Members" group
in the ribbon at the top. I selected all the recipients from the Global
Address List. I added them to the DL by clicking on "Members" at the bottom
of the "Select Members" menu after selecting each recipient from the Global
Address List.

Is this a DL you created in your Exchange mailbox or the GAL?

DL's created in the GAL are an Exchange issue, not an Outlook issue. Have
you asked your Exchange administrator?

I set up a DL using the Add New icon which involved manually entering
email addresses not on our Global list and manually entering one on
the Global list. The DL worked. It appears the importing from GAL
using the Select Members icon does not work. I will contact our
Exchange Administrator but the DL importing from the GAL works on my
2003 Outlook and does not on my Outlook 2007.

I've never seen importing a DL work. You create the DL where you want to use
it.

I wasn't clear on this.
My procedure (I use XP by the way) in Outlook 2007

Select Create New Distribution list
Type in Name of List
Click on Select Names
Address book defaults to GAL
Select names by searching, highlighting, and adding by clicking on
Members (that's what I meant by importing).
Click Save and Close

I have found that if I use Add New and type in the email address
manually, the DL works.
If I create a DL manually using Add New and then add a name using
Select Names, the DL comes up blank when I expand it in the To: box.

I have this same issue with many of my users. If I send an email
message it goes fine, but if I try to schedule and meeting with the
DL, it changes to a blank space with a semicolon. My system works
fine. I have tried rebuilding the user profile but this hasn't
resolved the issue. This started when we migrated to Office 2007.
Any solutions would be appriciated.

As I said, DL's created from the GAL are issues with the AD, not Outlook.
You'll need help in an Exchange group or from your Exchange Administrator.

OK but this is not an AD/GAL DL...it is a DL created by the user in
their contact list in Outlook...

You jumped this thread. If you have another issue, post in clearly in a new

Just to complete this discussion as I started it. I talked with one
of our exchange administrators who suggested that there might be a
corrupted Office 2007 issue and that I reload Office 2007. This would
also, of course, create a new profile. I did that last week and the
problem of the blank distribution lists did not reappear.

Thanks to all of you who gave input on this.
