I use google search as i have a google business appliance on my server and i
have recently downloaded office 2007 beta. I would like outlook to be able
to function without desktop search and without an annoying popup box. Other
than that Office 2007 beta is COOL. WELL DONE MICROSOFT!!!!!

If you want the instant search ability in Outlook and OneNote, you need
to have WDS 3. This is a final decision by Microsoft and there is no way
around it. You can however limit WDS to just these and prevent it from
searching your file system. To do that, go into Control Panel, Indexing
Options and change the Included Locations.
If you chose not to install WDS 3, then the instant search feature of
Outlook will not work. That means when you type something in the Search
box in Outlook, the answers won't come up instantly, but rather Outlook
will search at the same speed as did Outlook 2003 (quite slow).
To disable the popup box, follow the instructions in this article for
Outlook:

I'll go ahead and add that the instant search is extremely useful in Outlook
so I recommend installing WDS even if it's only for Outlook as Patrick
mentioned.

I should add that the current version of WDS 3 that you can get actually
only works with Outlook and OneNote. The WDS 3 beta version is the
engine only meaning that you don't have any UI to search your file
system and it doesn't even index the file system by default.
