New computer running Windows XP. Set up Outlook. Seems to work fine;
however, at the Windows Welcome Screen at sign on, it says you have 2 unread
messages. There are no messages in Outlook inbox. Uninstalled Office and
re-installed, 2 unread messages still appears. Looked at .pst files, only
have one file. Do you know where these 2 messages are hiding?

Hi,

It looks more like Windows is incorrectly showing the un-read counts of your
emails.
Also, before you try any steps, try opening Outlook Express and check if you
have any un-read emails in that program too.

You could try the following steps to disable it.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then press ENTER to start
Registry Editor.
2. On the left pane, double-click HKEY_CURRENT_USER, double-click Software,
double-click Microsoft, double-click Windows, and then double-click
CurrentVersion.
3. Right-click the UnreadMail folder, click New, and then select DWORD
Value.
4. Click New Value #1, and then rename it MessageExpiryDays .
5. Double-click MessageExpiryDays, and then type 0 under Value data.
6. Quit Registry Editor, restart the computer, and then verify that the
e-mail message count is no longer displayed on the Windows XP log on screen.

The following link will give you more details.

Thanks,
