Outlook 2003 will not start

hello,

I run Windows XP. I had Office XP installed and all was fine. I just
installed Office 2003 and all seems fine except for Outlook 2003. When I
launch it, I get the following:

A message box appears with the title bar "Configuring Outlook". It has 4
things:
1. Migrating Account Settings
2. Migrating Preferences
3. Creating Welcome Message
4. Importing User Date.

At the same time, I get a message box, titlebar = Microsoft Office Outlook".
The message with "big red X" is, "A system component, RPC, required by
Outlook to connect to the e-mail server is not configured properly. For
more information, contact your system administrator.". The only option is
the OK button. When clicked, I get another message box with titlebar =
"Connecting to Microsoft Exchange". The message is "Your Microsoft Exchange
Server is unavailable.".
Options are retry, work offline or cancel.

Looking at the running services, everything that starts automatically,
including the RPC service. Outlook XP was configured for a internet
email/POP3 account and a Exchange account on my Win2K server (Exchange 5.5
w/o internet connectivity). I was thinking that somehow, the configuration
to the exchange server became corrupted. I wanted to remove it via the Mail
applet in Control Panel, but when I try to run it, I get error that says
"you need more memory or system resources". This occurs even immediately
after reboot. Never had this problem before. My WinXP is running with lots
of Windows Updates, but no service packs. I only have modem so downloads
would take all night.

Can anyone suggest anything?

BTW, this problem appeared after I re-installed WinXP. Previous system
settings and configuration were retained with re-installing XP and
everything else on the system is fine.
