I have several XP machines that hook up to a 2003 SBS
server. When we first turn on the PC's it takes a super
long time for Outlook to sync up with the server. Once we
do the sync it works fine from then on.

Any Ideas?

We do have the server as our first DNS machine.

What do you mean by "sync up with the server" ? Do you mean, to *find* the
server?

Re DNS - all servers and workstations should specify *only* the internal
AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their network settings. The
AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with forwarders to your ISP's DNS
servers for external resolution. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300202 for more
info.

Well, when you open Outlook for the first time in the AM
it takes several minutes to send and recieve e-mail. Even
if you click on the button to send and receive. Now once
it does that if you click on the button it will happen at
a reasonable amount of time.

I am having a similar problem. Whenever a new pc is setup
or when someone returns after being out for several days,
it takes a long time for the pc to update itself in cached
mode. Sometimes we have to force an update by switching
between the Inbox and the Sent Items folder. Several
emails will come down at a time. Once up-to-date, all
works fine until they don't check their emails for a day.

Well hopefully someone has an answer and can help us out
before we get too many pages back and get lost in the
crowd so to speak...

You didn't address the DNS setup info I posted about - how is your internal
DNS set up?

We found that on our Exchange server 5.5, the NAV version
we used would cause the server to scan every email and
attachement that was being sent to the pc. The pc was
running Outlook 2003 in cached mode would then time out.
When we disabled NAV on the server, all the emails came
down very fast. We are now updating NAV and eventually
the exchange server to utilize all the options available
in exchange 2003.
