To All:

I have updated Outlook 2003 and Office 2003 with all of the current security
patches. Whenever I get a message that Outlook has detected a potential
junk e-mail and that it has been moved to the Junk Mail, the message never
appears in that folder.

I reviewed knowledge base article 832333 and I find that my OUTLFLTR.DAT
file still has the attributes that appeared before the patches were applied
(10/09/03 date, size and time). I tried to run the update again and I
received a message that the update had already been applied. I next changed
OUTLFLTR.DAT to OUTLFLTR.OLD and tried to run the update, but I received the
same message.

I am curious as to what can be done to update OUTLFLTR.DAT properly and how
I can get the junk mail to show up in the Junk Mail folder so that I can
review it. I am concerned that Outlook may be deleting some messages that I
might need.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

1) Are you sure you want to install the update? :) Many people feel it;s
less effective than the old one.
2) what type of mail account do you have?
3) what are the junk settings in tools, options, junk mail?

Hi, Dianne:

My mail accounts are POP3 accounts and the only junk mail setting being used
is the high setting.

The only reason I considered trying to resolve the discprepency between the
old OUTLFLTR.DAT and the newer one that probably should have been installed
as part of the recent Office 2003 update is the fact that messages that
Outlook is reporting as being delivered to the Junk Mail folder are simply
vanishing. I have no way to check for message that I might need to
retreive.

Did you upgrade over an older version and keep the profile? if so, try a new
profile- close outlook, go to control panel, mail applet and make a new one.
You can use the same pst - see http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/profile.htm
if you need help reusing a pst.
