Outlook 2003 Update - Junk E-mail Filter will not install

Guest

My PC is using Automatic Update. For the last 3 or 4 weeks I think, it has
been trying to download an update for my Outlook junk e-mail filter failing
every time it tries to do this. Can someone give me step by step instructions
to resolve this issue? I was told that automatic update must be turned off
and then there are files that must be deleted. Thank-you, Scott

If only people will stop using their registry cleaning programs.

Try this. Let us know how you have made out.

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Updates

It fails to install with what error code? What happens when you install it
manually?

Peter, 1st, thank-you for your reply. Only problem with using your
instructions is that my PC was loaded from a single disk allowing so many
uses for an office complex. Legal and registered, I just don't have that disk
to use in your instructions.

So this happened because I have a software program that cleans up my
computer files and registry keys? Thank-you for that knowledge as I will not
be using that ever again or at least the registry keys part of it.

Is there possibly another way to accomplish what's needed here? I was told
that I could turn auto update off, delete 2 folders in the hidden program
files/Outlook folder or maybe it was Office (this is what I'm not sure of the
correct folders to delete and which Program Folder they are in)

Roady, thank-you also, but there is no error code given. It just says that
the Junk e-mail fix was unable to be installed. I've not run it manually.
Just through the auto update program that searches for needed updates and
then runs.

All the update methods from Microsoft will show an error code when an update
was not succesfull. This will be either in log files and/or as UI feedback.
Manually installing it with the fullfile installer usually works when the
automatic update fails.
