Outlook 2003 unexpectedly closes

Hello all,

I am new to this board, but can't find an answer to my question via google
or anywhere else.

This happens fairly regularly and is more annoying than anything else --
when I open Outlook in the morning and then if I got to click on my Inbox
folder or another mail folder, Outlook will sometimes just close down
entirely. When I go to open it again, it will open with a message saying
something like "pst file was not shut down properly, please wait while it
checks for errors"...within 30 seconds this box disappears and everything
seems to be working ok.

My pst file is less than 1 GB...this seems to happen only if I click on a
mail folder too soon after opening Outlook. If I wait for my hard drive to
stop cranking, and then click to open a folder, it doesn't seem to happen.

My OS is XP Pro if that helps...any ideas on what is going on?

What is logged to the Event Viewer regarding this? Have you ran scanpst.exe
against it already to check it for errors?

The checking for errors dialog is nothing to worry about - Outlook has
always done it, but never told you what it was doing.

Does it only shut down when you change folders?

When it does shut down, it will do it right at the beginning when I attempt
to click on a mail folder, or even the Contact or Calendar buttoms..someone
suggested it could be because I have an add-in (perhaps AVG 7.0 antivirus
software) that is not done setting up yet?
