Hello,

when I close Outlook 2003 it often stays in memory and keeps one or more
personal folder files open. this creates a problem with making a backup of
these files. what I now do is check with the task manager whether Outlook is
still in memory, stop it (ignoring the warnings), and than make the backup.
when I restart Outlook in this case it sometimes gives a message that the
pst was not closed properly and that it needs to be checked. this has not
caused any problems until now, but I don't feel comfortable with it. I work
with a notebook running under Windows XP.

any suggestions?

TIA,

Henk Koning

Are you sure Outlook is closed completely and that it is not just minimized
to the Notification Area? It could be "hidden" so make sure you expand the
area to make sure. Also; do you use any synchronisation software or an
integrated virusscanner that could hold the process? Disable those to make
sure whethter Outlook is your problem or not.

Roady,

thanks for your reaction.

I was hoping my problem would be recognized by others.

I am sure Outlook is closed and not hidden or minimized.

Finding the cause myself is a bit difficult, since it does not happen
always, and I have no idea whether it is repeatable when it happens. Usually
a make a backup on startup, and then I don't have the problem anyway. Next
time it happens, I will first see whether it is repeatable, and then I will
disable my virusscanner and see what happens,

thanks,

Henk
