Outlook 2003 SP1 wipes out clipboard when it starts

Anyone know why clipboard gets cleared when Outlook starts? I can
copy something to clipboard, start Outlook and it is gone when I
try and paste it into a new email. I get a funky looking icon
instead. I know clipboard is empty after Outlook starts because I
try and paste copied text into a text editor and there is nothing
to paste.

If I do the same copy and paste after Outlook is up and running, it
works fine.

How do I fix this annoyance?

G'Day Luddy,

You don't say so, but I am guessing that you use Word as your
e-mail editor.

There are a number of Word AddIns that clear the Windows
clipboard as they are loaded by Word (including the MS Works
AddIn, I believe). Word by itself does NOT clear the clipboard.

Anything you copy BEFORE Word starts is lost, anything copied
afterwards will paste ok.

The same thing applies if you try to copy something from (say) the
Internet, then start Word and try to Paste - don't work.

Start Word first, then copy and paste all you like.

You could try selectively disabling each Word AddIn and, when
you establish which one it is, decide if you really need it.

Download clipboard manager and see what happens.
if you have a logo in your signature notice that outlook/word copies the stupid image instead of inserting it.
so you can't paste your copied text because it pastes the image then erases it.
choice 1 remove logo, to me that was not acceptable,
choice 2: theirfore i use a clipboard manager - so you have a record of pasted clipboards
because this windows bug is everywhere. office products, visual basic products, any where microsoft software is used i have noticied wierd occasions.
