Whenever I try to close out of Outlook 2003, the Outlook icon remains active in the taskbar. When I put my cursor over the icon, it says that Outlook is not responding and to close it out with task manager. Once I do that and re-start Outlook, I get the message that it needs to start in "safe mode". What could possibly cause Outlook to not shut down properly? I have used the Office repair utility, but to no avail. I dont have any add ins, so forget that solution. This is an obvious problem, what are Microsoft doing about it??????????????????? You spend big money on programs that have such annoying little problems..........bah Mr Gates

Do you have a PDA? Are you using custom forms? Are you using WinFax? Are
you using an antivirus product that scans your email?

Well, your attitude isn't such that's going to gain you an answer to your
question. Norton can sometimes cause issues. I wouldn't suggest disabling it
for good, merely creating a new profile with no email. Then disable Norton.
Launch Outlook (since there's no email involved you're safe) and see if it
shuts down. If so, you might try uninstalling Norton, rebooting, then
reinstalling.

You don't want to leave Norton off and check email, but as long as you're
not checking email (in a no email profile) you can safely disable it for a
few minutes to see if that's the cause.
