Outlook 2003 will not return a .pst file to the network after it's been
closed so that a different application can open it. Is there a way to use VBA
to insure that a .pst file has been returned to the network after you close
it? Do you think I could create maybe a different close procedure that I
could use when I need to backup a .pst file? I don't know what could be
catching so that the file won't be flagged as in-use by outlook 2003.

Close Outlook. That will release the file lock.

Storing PST files on a network is not supported and if network connectivity
is lost while the file is opened that's a real good way to corrupt the PST
file and leave it in a locked state.

Sorry. I tried closing outlook and that does not release the file. I guess
server 2000 doesn't view freed access rights if an XP computer has released
them.

Server 2000 has an overall file access dialog and the pst is on the server
2000 computer so hopefully I can just use that when I need to.
