I have a simple rule setup to automatically delete email (I also tried
moving the message to deleted items) with the following text "The
original message content contained a virus or was blocked due to
blocking rules and has been removed." Unfortunetly it doesn't work
unless you run the rule manually. This was the same with OfficeXP.
This is one of the main reasons I upgraded to Outlook 2003, I thought
this problem would be fixed. This is really discouraging. They can't
even fix this one simple problem. geez...

I did some additional testing and noticed the following...

I am running Exchange 5.5 SP4 and Trend eManager. I have a rule setup
in the eManager software to delete any email it receives from my yahoo
account. Due to
limitations of the software it doesn't actually delete the message, it
deletes the body of the message and inserts the following text string
"The
original message content contained a virus or was blocked due to
blocking
rules and has been removed." before forwarding it to the recipients
Inbox.

Create a message in my Yahoo account.

Subject: Test
Body: Homer Simpson

When the message arrives in my Inbox it contains the text "The
original
message content contained a virus or was blocked due to blocking rules
and
has been removed.", because it was blocked by the SPAM filtering
software.

Create the following rules in outlook

Rule 1. Delete any message containing the text "The original message
content
contained a virus or was blocked due to blocking rules and has been
removed."

When the message arrives it remains in the Inbox. It is deleted if I
manually run the rule.

Rule 2. Delete any message containing the text "Homer Simpson"

When the message arrives it is automatically deleted even though the
body of
the message now says "The original message content contained a virus
or was
blocked due to blocking rules and has been removed." because it was
blocked
by the SPAM filtering software on the server.

My hunch is the server side rule is run against the message before
it's
processed by the SPAM filtering software. Is this assumption correct?

Hmm... well my issue is that none of my client-side rules are working,
even though outlook is open and running on two machines running 2003.
I clicked the "Update rules" button and even deleted all of rules and
recreated them. Server-side rules work just fine.

Ideas?

Thanks!
