Outlook 2003 POP save on server x days - when does time begin?

Hi,

In Outlook 2003 - Accessing POP3 Mail - When you select save on server
x number of days - When does the time count for days begin?

Lets say I have old E-Mails in Outlook - and on the server -
I choose to leave on server 30 days - Will all E-Mail older than 30 days
be removed from the server - immediately?

Or will the time count 30 days from when I chose to leave them on the server
- so 30 days from when I chose to leave on server for x days - they will
begin being removed from the server?

it's 30 days from the date you downloaded them into outlook. If you switched
from leave on the server forever to leave on for 30 days, I think the old
stuff will stay for 30 days (but I never tested it).

The "Remove from server after N days" option is dependent on enabling the
"Leave a copy of messages on server" option. You can't delete items left on
the server for N days unless you are already leaving them on the server.

You are correct that the N days left on the server is measured from when
they were retrieved (by Outlook). I use the "leave messages on server" so I
can logon using the webmail interface to the account to use the e-mail
provider's own "Report as Spam" feature to get their spam filter updated
(rather than or in addition to trying to forward as attachment a copy of the
spam through the abuse address). To prevent my mailbox from exceeding its
disk space quota, I also use the "remove after N days" option (if I haven't
needed to use the webmail interface to get at the e-mail after a couple
weeks then I don't need the e-mail left there).

The bug reported here is for OL2002. I have been using OL2003 (same as for
the OP) and not encountered this bug so it appears to have been fixed in
later versions.

The OP never mentioned with whom he/she has e-mail accounts. The e-mail
provider may handle e-mails or provide options that obviate some options
configured in Outlook. For example, Gmail does not obey the RFC standards
for POP (Post Office Protocol). Whether an item is retained or deleted
after retrieving a copy of it is controlled by a server-side configuration
option in your account. Your e-mail client may issue a RETR (retrieve)
followed by a DELE (delete) but Gmail will ignore the DELE command if it was
configured to leave e-mails in your account.
