1. Thank you. So I have exported the contacts to Excel and used search
and
replace to change existing numbers, then reimported. One result is that
notes are curtailed and some information lost. The main result is of
course
that regional codes are now incorrectly represented in Outlook (without
the
leading zero) but as long as all numbers are dialled as international
numbers
the phone will now work.
2. This is a kludge. Could I respectfully suggest to Microsoft that it
ought to address it as a problem? I know it is not an issue for users in
the
US who do not travel abroad, but Microsoft software is supposed to be used
by
others too. The problem results from the failure of MS Outlook accurately
to
link international and regional codes .
I first came across this issue with another US company's software -
transferring from Outlook to other phones. They told me they were aware
of
the issue but had no plans to deal with it, because it only affected
customers in Europe (untrue - but for Europe, read 'abroad'). I regarded
that attitude as parochial. I am dismayed to find the same problem in MS
Outlook.

Not that I know of. Masking of phone numbers in Outlook is hard coded.

I have a similar problem: when Outlook formats numbers, asking for the
country and area code, the result (eg for most numbers in London, UK)
is
+44
(020) xxxx xxxx. However, to dial that number from abroad it is
necessary
to
drop the leading zero. Although this rule is the same for most EU
countries,
Outlook does not manage this.
I would now like to edit all my numbers to replace "(0" with "(". Is
there
a way to do this?

What setting did you specify in Dialing Options... for the phone
number
in
Outlook?

When i enter phone numbers with the full international
number prefixed by the '+' sign out look now removes
the '+' sign which means when i syncronise with my mobile
phone i have to manually edit the numbers in mobile phone
This used to work Ok and works with outlook 2000/XP
