Outlook 2003 on XP - corrupted .pst file

I have a .pst file that due to a huge spam hit is over 5k. It is corrupt.
Can I compress/compact the file before running scanpst.exe?

It won't let me run scanpst.exe in safe mode.

HELP!
 
5K is smaller than even an empty PST file.
Might want to consider posting more accurately, next time. We have no idea
what your real question is.
 
If the file is really damaged, you should fix it, if possible, with scanpst
before attempting any form of compaction. Outlook 2003's Unicode .PST file
format supports files up to 20 GB, so size is not an issue that should have
caused corruption. Now, if this is an Outlook 97-2002 ANSI format file, you
have a size limit of 1.6 GB after which the file corrupts and will probably
require truncation:

It was a typo. Sorry it is 5 GB. Your sarcasm is really not appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. It is sincerely appreciated. Another user pointed
out my typo - my pst file is 5 GB not K. Unfortunately for some reason, the
boot on the machine in regular mode is not coming up. I can boot in safe
mode fine, but it is more than slow to get it to try to come up in regular
mode.

I am unable to run the scanpst.exe program in safe mode it prompts me for a
program to open the file. Any ideas?

Desparate - non-expert outlook user.

How do you know that the PST file is damaged when you cannot even bring
up Windows in normal mode? I suggest that you fix Windows first, then
look at the PST file issue.

Your obnoxiousness does nothing to further the reputation of IT
people. Being obtusive when someone who is less experienced that you
makes an honest mistake does not help them or endear anyone towards
you.

If we're going to point out all the mistakes I would say that the
grammar in your 'sentence' "Might want to consider posting more
accurately, next time." leaves a lot to be desired.

I am not an MVP but I thought it was pretty obvious that in the
context of a massive spam hit the 5K error was obviously a typo.
That's the beauty of being a human and not a computer. Perhaps you
could have asked if he could check the file size was correct before
lambasting him and assuming that 'we' are all with you!

Sorry for the rant but whilst looking for some information you
unhelpful attitude just reminded me how lame why I spend so much time
in my job persuading non techie people that not all IT professionals
are fastidious and difficult to deal with.

I wonder if you can decipher what I meant at the end where I made some
typos... I can correct them if you can't!
