I have Windows XP and have tried
1. Reset your Menu Toolbar using the Customize option.
2. Rename outcmd.dat with Outlook closed, then restart Outlook.
3. I don t'have OE so can't do anything with that.

Has anyone had any success in getting the newsreader back? I have reinstalled with no luck. Please email me with any updates!

The newsreader Outlook uses is the outlook express one.

The only way I could get it back is the following:

Go to Internet Options, Programs tab.
Set default newsreader to outlook express.

You should be able then to find the news button in the Go menu with the
customize menu settings tool.

When you start the newsreader, if it asks to make Outlook your default
newsreader, choose NO, otherwise
you lose the newsreader button again.

concerning #3 above:
You will be unable to return access to newsgroups as long as you do not have
a newsreader installed on your HD. You say you no longer have Outlook
Express. Well, when you got rid of it, you got rid of the most common
newsreader Outlook uses.

Didn't know? Well, now you do. Outlook does not have a native newsreader,
but uses whatever the default Windows newsreader is. In the majority of
cases, it is Outlook Express. However, it is not necessary to use Outlook
Express. There are many others available. See here:
