I was trying to set up the Outlook Newsreader by
following the MS Instructions. After dragging it to the
toolbar, it would only open up an instance of a file
folder.

I then deleted this "link" from my toolbar and attempted
to repeat the process. However, the "NEWS" selection
from the toolbar>customize>Go location does not even
appear at all anymore.

Any ideas how to get this back? I tried resinstalling
Outlook 2003, but it did not rectify the problem.

Perhaps someone knows the command lin with any switches
to pop-up the Outlook Newsreader directly.

Thanks for any help.

I've noticed this peculiar behavior also. If you add "News" to the "Go" menu
per MS instructions, it works fine until you make Outlook the default news
reader. Once you do this, the command disappears from the menus! If you open
OE and make it the default news reader, the command reappears in the Outlook
"Go" menu. As long and you DON'T make Outlook the default, it stays there.
Weird.

I had the same issue. Search for my earlier thread for further details.
The problem seems to have fixed itself, which is simultaneously pleasing and
annoying.

Did you examine the settings in Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs?

Meaning what?
The settings required for Outlook 2003 are different than earlier versions,
but just as illogical.
First, you must now select Outlook Express (not Outlook) as your default
news reader in Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs...
Second, if OE prompts you to make it your default news reader when you first
launch it, answer NO and tell it to stop asking.
