With Outlook 2003, can one do away with the Mail "Favorite Folders"
portion of the Today screen, and simply use the "All Mail Folders"
section? Given I only have one email account, the two sections are
duplicates of each other. Even removing all the folders from the
"Favorite Folders" section does not seem to remove the section itself.

There does seem to be a lack of customization choices in Outlook 2003. One
feature that was dropped in Outlook 2003 is the ability to open the folder
list using the banner (not the toolbar, but the bar below that which has the
current folder name displayed on it). While the navigation bar is okay, it
has the same problem as the shortcut bar - it takes up space. In the past,
if you hid the shortcut bar you could use the banner to select any folder to
open. Now if you hide the navigation bar the only way I've found to open
another folder is to open the folder list dialog. This is not only steps,
but the dialog is fixed - meaning with a lot of folders you'll have a lot of
scrolling (no scrolling needed in previous versions). There's no way to
customize the toolbar to add this as a drop down list.

This really seems like a stupid feature to have removed and I can find no
logic behind it. I've submitted a request to (e-mail address removed), but I'd
rather find someone on the Outlook group to explain why they broke this.
There are some handy new features in Outlook, and they seem to outweigh the
remaining problems (e.g., still no *useful* field customization), but when
seemingly basic features - like drop down lists - are removed without
explanation, it's more than a little aggravating.
