Good day all,

Since formatting and reinstalling Office 2003, it seems to be completely
ignoring the display settings for XP. I've selected the XP standard blue
theme, but none of my office apps care about this setting, never changing
from the "classic" look.

I include a link to a screenshot of my Outlook 2003, where it is easy to see
that WinXP is set to it's default theme, but Outlook is not picking up on
this.

Any suggestions out there? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling,
including from different known good media. Win XP is completely up to date,
as is the office install. All seems to work fine so far except for the lack
of an "updated skin" to my office apps.

It's a small thing I know, but it's driving me mad! ;-)

TIA

I've heard Office 2003 disables themed toolbars on Windows XP pre-SP1 due to
incompatabilities that were fixed in that update, but you say you are up to
date. I've not experimented with or seen this behaviour, having only
installed Office 2003 on service packed PCs.

After you reformatted, did you install Office 2003 before sevice packing
Windows? Perhaps once it is disabled it remains so.

I've never had a problem before either, this is brand new to me. My XP
install has sp1 included, but just to make sure I downloaded the sp1a
network install and then did an uninstall/reinstall of Office, still the
same. I'm not 100% sure I had every update from Windows Update installed
before Office, but definitely had SP1.

Seems you may be correct, once it's disabled I can find no way of getting it
to retest (or whatever). Man, it's hardly worth a reformat... you'd think
there'd be a registry settings somewhere. I can find so little information
about this, strange since there should be a large number of pre-sp1
machines. I can only find one thread on Google about this, ironically
there's a large number of posts from people wanting to get rid of the
"tubular" toolbars... I'd happily trade them! ;-)

Thanks for the reply.

I may have related issue. The changes I make to the make-up/layout of the
toolbars is not "saved." When I reopen Outlook 2003 the changes are not
there.. I have XP Home with SP1.
