After I've had the ap running for a while, in the mail window I'll get a
message regarding the unavailability of folders and can't display any
messages. All email is gone (from view) etc. If I shutdown/restart,
everything returns to normal, for a while.

My pst corrupt or too big? Or???

Thanks.

Might want to include some information with your post if you are asking for
help in a newsgroup.

Size looks ok (under 2GB). Sounds like a corrupt PST or bad HD. Make a
backup copy of the PST then use Scanpst.exe to repair the file.

No. By information I meant useful information. This is a newsgroup. We are
not mind readers. At a minimum in a newsgroup your post should have
included:
1. Whether Outlook ever worked correctly.
2. If so, what steps were taken before it stopped working
3. Mail account types
4. Information store
5. Precise error message
Here are some suggestions on how to use newsgroups:

1 - Worked correctly
2 - No steps taken before the problem but it seems to occur after pc idle
for some time
3 - 2 pop accounts
4 - What is information store?
5 - Precise error message right now is in the viewing pane. It reads "This
item cannot be displayed in reading pane. Open to read the contents. When
I open I get another error message of "Can't open this item. Another
application closed unexpectedly while using your Personal Folders, etc.
Won't be available until you close and reopen"

I've run scanpst.exe but problem still appears.

The error message tells you that you have some other application or add-in
running that accesses your Outlook data file. Only you would know what that
could be. Make sure you have nothing else running that accesses Outlook,
like email scanning for example.

What if I do have another ap "using" Outlook? Like a 3rd party add-on RSS
popper that never caused a problem in the past. Or the Verizon Wireless
Sync ap that has not caused problems in the past. What would cause the
recent change?

Anything that accesses Outlook and its data file programmatically can cause
errors in the file, or disrupt the connection between the profile and the
file. That's what the error message is telling you is happening. I've never
seen this error message before.
