Any body know if it is possible to use the BC field of a sent message
in a filter? I need this to store certain outward bound emails in a
certain folder.

thanks

An outgoing message rule cannnot test the Bcc string specifically, but using
the "with specific words in the recipient's address" condition will detect a
specific address no matter which recipient field it was in, including Bcc.
I just tested it.

Thanks Brian. My requirement is that the filter should know whether
the message was sent directly or bcc'ed to an address. Your suggestion
would work if there were it were possible to set up an additional rule
checking if the mail also was sent directly to that address.

Clearly you know whether or not you put the name in the Bcc field, so it's
apparent I don't understand your goal.

I don't see any built-in way for Outlook to do what you want (i.e., detect
the recipient ONLY if in the Bcc field). You'll have to write your own code
for that.

Thanks again Brian
The thing is that I bcc my secretary in on the messages that are
important and should be archived in our DM system. However the
corpoarte DM system is not perfect in I would like to keep a local
copy of those messages in a separate folder for quick access.

I am aware that it is possible to import filters to Outlook. Could it
be that it would be possible to make more advanced filter somewhere
else and import it into Outlook. I must admint that I find the
capabilities in Outllook regarding filters quite limited. Gmail's
interface is for instance much more powerfull.

Then use Gmail instead of outlook. :)

Do the messages go into your sent folder? Create a view that shows the BCC
field, sort or group by it and copy the messages. If you can get in the
habit of adding a category to bcc'd messages you can use an after sending
rule to copy them.

Thanks Diane. Of course I do use Gmail in my personal business ;-)

Your suggestion is genius. For some reason is does however not work
for me since the BCC column is empty in my sent folder. Strangest
thing.
