I recently installed Office 2003 on top of Office XP (Windows XP platform).
All Office 2003 products seemingly work fine, EXCEPT Outlook 2003.
Basically, it hangs on startup. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling,
deleting my old mail profile, etc. It even hangs starting up in Outlook
/safe Mode. I noticed in Event Viewer I have to two messages related to
Outlook every time I've tried to start it up:

#1) The MOF file created for the Outlook service could not be loaded. The
error code returned by the MOF Compiler is contained in the Record Data.
Before the performance counters of this service can be collected by WMI the
MOF file will need to be loaded manually. Contact the vendor of this service
for additional information

#2) Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 11.0.5510.0, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Any ideas on how fix this?

thank you,
Jim Stalder

Nope, no add-ins. It's a fairly vanilla install of Windows XP with very few
additional apps, except Norton AV Corporate Edition. I don't think the
problem is Norton, since I'm using another computer with the same setup with
no problems...
thanks,
JrS

do both machines scan for viruses as mail arrives? if yes, see you get the
error with scanning disabled.

Did you try reinstalling Norton?

.
Were you ever able to get to the bottom of this. I have
seen 20+ posts about it and nobody has an answer. Thanks.
