Outlook 2003 Does Not Shut Down

I saw this in an older post and no one answered.

When I exit from Outlook 2003 and look in Task Manager, Outlook is still running taking up a large part of memory. There are no applications within or "connected" to Outlook that are running.

The Outlook icon remains on the taskbar. When clicking the OL icon it simply says "Outlook is Not Responding." The only way to stop it is to "End Process" in Task Manager.

This came up all of a sudden as it used to close.

Any ideas are appreciated

I have a similar problem, but after the sending/recieving
has finished, and the application dissapears from the
screen, the baloon message on the taskbar icon
says "Outlook is not responding. If you are using an
exchange server e-mail account, you can cancel pending
server requests......." (I am not using an exchange server
e-mail account). What is really wierd, is that when my
wife logs in (same computer - just a different username)
and uses Outlook, it opens and closes with no problem.
Does anyone have any ideas ? I am getting fed up with
closing it through task manager.

An update to my previous post.
I have tried removing all of the outlook configurations
etc. from my directory, and restarting outlook, tried
copying all of my wifes config files to my directory,
tried starting the computer in safe mode, and finally,
trying the repair procedure from the CD. It still will
not shut down properly. I am now suspecting it is
something to do with the registry.
