I'm having problems with Outlook 2003 distribution groups.
Here it is:
My internal domain name is xxxxxxx.loc running Windows
2003 and Exchange 2003, which is not a registered domain
name. My external domain name is xxxxxx.com which is
registered. The Exchange server has a distribution group
setup called everybody. On my clients I have Outlook 2003
installed. It is set to open the Exchange mailbox, and
also has a pop3 account setup to retrieve my external
email. The default account is the pop3 account. I can send
and receive internal and external mail fine unless I use
the distribution group "Everybody". The message will come
back as undeliverable message.
I tracked the problem down to this. When a user sends
mail to anybody on the Global Addresses list or to any
distribution group in the Global Address list the mail
sends through the pop3 account and not Exchange. The
reason a single user can receive mail fine is because
their Windows 2003 username is the same as their email
address, so in Active Directory under the user properties
email address the default would be (e-mail address removed),
but I have change that to (e-mail address removed), however the
distribution group "Everybody" still has a email as
(e-mail address removed). That is why it does not work. I'm
unable to change that to (e-mail address removed) because
that will interfere with the external mail server users.
Outlook 2000 did not have this problem; it would send
internal mail through the Exchange server and external
mail through the pop3 account. Not sure about Outlook
2002, but Outlook 2003 is a problem.
Has anyone else experience this, or have any solutions for
it?
