My outlook has suddenly started crashing due on startup. It was working
fine till a couple of days back. I haven't installed anything related
to outlook except the normal update from Microsoft.
I am using Outlook 2003 on XP.

I tried the various solutions I could google in for but of no help.

Here is the list of things(found in some post) I have already tried
without any luck

- Reinstall Outlook
- Create a New Profile
- Tried running outlook in Safe Mode (the safe mode is also crashing
the same way as normal startup)
- Remove outcmd.dat
- Ran pstscan.exe on all my pst files.

The Outlook doesnt come up for more than 20 secs & goes off without any
message.
I tried to find for any logs of the error but couldnt find any. Nothing
was found in the Event Logs as well.

Have you updated/upgraded your antivirus at all? Are you virus scanning
incoming/outgoing email at all?

I have managed to get hold of the issue. The issue seems to be an
application "mobile Phone Tools" that I installed to manage & connect
to my mobile phone. I uninstalled the application & the Outlook is up.

Thanks for the heads up Kathleen

Thank you for the "Mobile Phone Tools" tip. I tried virtually everything to fix this Outlook issue, to no avail. I did not connect the Outlook issue to the recent installation of the mobile Phone Tools, since I had them coexisting on another machine. I took your tip one step further though: instead of uninstalling the mobile Phone Tools, I opened the product and initiated the "Live Update" feature, which updated the version of the product. Once updated, Outlook finally opened without incident and the Phone Tools remained intact. They must have been made aware of this issue and provided a fix within the recent update. What I learned from this: any product that incorporates Outlook data and/or functions can potentially affect the operation of Outlook itself.
