Hello,

Can someone help me a bit with Outlook 2003? I have it installed and
running on my machine. What I dont have is intelligent integration
between OL and the Window Address Book.

If seems to be that if I put a person's name and email address in the
Contacts folder, then when I start an email and click the To...
button, it does not use the Contacts folder. It only seems to want to
use the Windows Address book.

So I could put all addresses into the address book, but then what good
is the Contacts forlder? Why is there no way to move addresses between
the two? Frankly, I would like to do away with the address book and
use Contacts 100% of everything, but I am not sure this is possible.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Start at the beginning please. Was this a clean install? If not, over what
version and mail support mode did you install?
Outlook has never used the Windows Address Book as a data source. What makes
you think it is?

In the inbox under tools, click Address Book and then go
to Tools and options. That will change it to whatever you
want. Now tell me how I can get the names in last name
first order, not in Contacts but when I send email.

Hi Russ,

Ok thanks very much for your help. I am using Outlook 2003 from the
new office package. It was installed over Outlook 2002 from the Office
XP package.

So my problem occurs when I select New | Message in the main outlook
menu. I get a new message window. I then click the "To..." button to
add addresses. The personal address book comes up (is this the same as
the Windows address book?). I can select addresses from this book,
but, these are not the same addresses in my Contacts folder.

If I pull down the "Show Names from the:" list, it only lists the
personal address book, and not the Contacts folder.

I would like to eliminate this address book entirely, and have the
Conacts folder be used in all cases.

I should also add that I went through all of the tools dialogs, and
address book dialogs to see if somewhere I could add the Contacts
folder to the list of address books. But in no place could I see an
option to allow me to add the Contacts folder.

You have the wrong address book service. Outlook hasn't used a PAB for
years. Remove it, and add the Outlook Address Book instead:
Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.
