Outlook 2003 can't open assigned task requests - error msg

a task assignment in my inbox won't open, Outlook gives an error message that
says 'can't open this item. Outlook cannot do this action on this type of
attachment.' The request was sent in rich text format.
Is there anything else that shold be configured or acivated to open this
request?

Thanks, Andreas; I was hoping that it would be less complicated! I feel that
it should be a set-up issue, somewhere in Outlook.

I've also tried sending a task request in plain text format, it too can't be
opened. In summary, the task request can't be opened by the recipient whether
the format of the message is HTML, RTF or plain text. Other functions of
Outlook 2003 are working, including meeting request. The MS instructions for
making a task request were followed exactly.
