Hello,

I have Outlook 2003 installed with several email accounts - 2 different
email providers. On one of the mail providers, our broadband ISP, I can
send email to my wife's office. On the other email accounts setup through
my personal website hosts SMTP mailserver I cannot send email to her at the
office.

From this "malfunctioning" account, I CAN send email to various other people
without trouble. Here's the weird one - I CAN set up the same mail account
on the same machine in OE6 and it works! Trust me, the mail settings in
Outlook 2003 are set up completely correct - same as in OE6, but my wife
never receives the messages NOR do I get any bounces back as undeliverable,
nor any error messages about configuration etc.... Why can this be
happening? To where are these messages disappearing?

These accounts used to work fine until 8 days ago - and we did NOT install
any new software or updates. To verify, I re-installed a fresh image on the
machine of a properly working installation and the same problems occur.

Why OE6 and not Outlook?

Thanks!

Well, that's a difficult one to sort out. My first thought would be to
remove the account in Outlook completely and maybe reboot and then add it
back again. Alternatively, make sure your wife doesn't have any filters set
that might be blocking the emails. Also verify that the messages are in the
sent items folder. If you have any ability to log your SMTP server actions,
then check the logs and see if it is going through the server okay when you
send from Outlook.

good luck <G>

Thanks Steve,

I did get her to query her IT guys and they insist it is not on their end.
I did delete the accounts - no luck; deleted the profile; no luck. The
messages are absolutely in the sent items folder. And, they never bounce
back to me, or arrive at her desk. Where would they go? Our web provider
has been contacted as they will have to check the SMTP at their end, we seem
to have no control over logging.

Just to be clear, I can send email to others using this SMTP service of my
website and Outlook, but not to my wife or anyone at her domain. OE6 does
work however, which is why I am completely baffled - especially since I
restored an image yesterday and then re-installed Office from scratch - same
result. You would think if her IT had somehow blocked my domain then OE6
would not work either.

Yesterday, I was able to import a working account from OE6 into Outlook and
then it did work. Sadly, for a variety of reasons, I restored the image as
noted one last time and tried the same OE6 toOutlook procedure again - and
it did not work - which is even stranger...

Could it be some sort of protocol in Outlook that OE6 does not use?

Very, very baffling.

Thanks

In Outlook use Plain text or HTML format. OE cannot read RTF format, but
that should not prevent the messages from getting there.

I'm as baffled as you are.

Thanks Stve,

Just to be clear in case anyone is interested - OE6 is only used in this
scenario to "send" a test message - not to receive it. My wife uses Outlook
XP at her end, and she will get the test email from OE6 but not from Outlook
2K3. The email from 2K3 just disappears - with no errors.

However, if I add a "read receipt" to the outgoing email from within
Outlook, it gets delivered...

Whacko!
