I have asked this question once already but the answer
that was given did not work.

I have installed outlook 2003 beta on win 2K and all works
well at the office.

When I go home and try to access outlook through a VPN
connection on my laptop, outlook no longer recognizes my
mail server even with a host file entry. Office XP worked
fine with this config.

I have downloaded the latest tech refresh and it still
doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Hi Jeff,

I'm working on with the issue. I will update the post as soon as possible.

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for the posting. As you indicated you installed outlook 2003
beta on win 2K and all works well at the office.
When you go home and try to access outlook through a VPN connection,
outlook no longer recognizes your mail server even with a host file entry.
Office XP worked fine with this config.

Outlook now offers an alternative to VPN connections. Outlook can connect
to an Exchange Server through the Internet by using RPC over HTTP. With the
RPC over HTTP feature, you can access your Exchange Server account remotely
from the Internet when you are working outside your organization's firewall
without any special connections or hardware, such as smart cards and
security tokens.

You can also try OWA ( Outlook Web Access ) method to access Outlook from
home.

If you cannot connect to the mail server, you can also try another email
profile to see if a new email profile can recognize the mail server
correctly.

As for Outlook 2003 connection issue, please refer to this knowledge base
article:

Hope the above information and suggestion helps. If anything is unclear or
anything further we can help you with, please let me know.

Sincerely,

I already have access to the web access method but it's
pretty inadequate.

I will try the second method when I get a chance.

Thanks.
