Outlook 2003 Beta Data File Won't Open

My Outlook 2003 beta expired. I reloaded my Outlook XP
and it can't open the data file. I also set back the date
on the computer and reinstalled the 2003 beta but the
file still won't open. HELP!

My hunch (and I wasn't involved with the beta) is that Outlook 2003 PST
files are different than Outlook XP Files? Take a look at the
documentation that you were given when you started your participation in
the Beta program. You'll also probably read in that documentation that
the Beta program has ended by now. My hunch is that you'll need to buy
a copy of Outlook 2003?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

rms

You are correct. The 2003 .pst file is different.
However, I set the system date prior to the beta's
expiration and installed the beta on another machine.
This installation functions perfectly; however, when I
try to import a copy of yesterday's data file, I get the
incompatibility message. I need my data!

Did you install the Technical Refresh as well? Outlook 2003 BETA can't open
Outlook 2003 BETA+TR pst-files.
Once you've got it open you can downgrade your pst-file in the following
manner;

I'm also having a lot of problems switching back to
Outlook XP! Including deleting rules and send/receive
email!!!

Go to the folder where the data files .pst are loaded and
check each one out. you can load them manually from the
File Open dialog

PST files can be read with Outlook 2000. I have the same
problem after installing O2003 beta reverting to 2000,
but I can use the PST on another computer. If someone
has another suggestion... Thanks

You'll need to install the BETA+TR again then and follow instructions
provided in;

When you try to install the final release (demo) it will uninstall the BETA
first. Later you can easily upgrade to the final release. Upgrade will go
smooth but you might need to recreate your mail profile after the upgrade
from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2003. This will also remove all the old
registrykeys of your profile. To recreate your profile;
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...

do a msi registry clean first? any advice or comments on the workability of
this? (yes I have to budget and I figure 4 months would give me some time to
get my ducks in a row for the cash outlay ;) or how would anyone else handle
it?

Well I always make a back-up of my pst-file before upgrading/reinstalling
but never needed it (knock on wood). Your profile should migrate nicely and
even when you delete your mailprofile you won't delete your pst-file.

Thanks for visiting my site and the congrats! ;-)

Thanks Roady, I was hoping you would say that!! whewww
So to confirm, I will just install the demo and you are saying I should or
should not save the pst files from 2003 (probably just in case...?)
You think that it wont be disturbed if it deletes the beta and reinstalls
the demo?

I am trying not to go the 2000 route at this time.. so not too worried about
the format just yet.

BTW... nice site and congrats on the mvp designation....

Heya Roady

Everything worked like a charm. Just as you said. The trial went on with
nfp's. PST were backed up and as you said weren't needed. Nothing to do but
stick in the disks and wait for it to finish.. What a dream!! back to the
real date now.... lol.
