Outlook 2003 and 2002 compatibility issue

please elaborate more on how to export from 2003 and then inport the contacts into 2002 outlook version. I don't understand the response below

This does not fit. You need to pay closer attention to the type of PST fil
you are actually creating. If you are exporting a PST file that was create
anew in Outlook 2003, neither Outlook 2002 nor Outlook 2000 can access it
You must create the old format PST ("Outlook 97-2002") in Outlook 2003 fo
earlier versions to access it, and you cannot do so with the expor
function, only the File > New > Outlook Data File... function can creat
such a file

You can't. An export from Outlook 2003 creates a PST in the new format,
which previous Outlook versions cannot read.
As I said, you must instead create a new PST file in Outlook 2003. When you
do, you will be given the option of creating it in the old ("Outlook
97-2002") format. Select that option.
Once you do, copy and paste the information you want from the Outlook 2003
PST into that PST file.

Thank you for your reply. I am often sharing the info between computers. For best practices, should I copy the outlook.pst file into the newly created .pst file (created to be compatible), and then should I be working out of the new profile and delete the old profile? Or can you just copy the contact folder to the newly created profile. Please reply.
 
Now you've lost me. How did profiles enter into this?
If you have an ongoing need to synchronize between Outlook 2003 and previous
versions, you would be better off using the old PST format in both versions.
That would eliminate compatibility issues.

PST into the newly created 2002 compatible PST file. However, when I bring up the outlook program all of the contact & other folders are not showing up under the newly created name. How do I use the newly created and then get rid of the 2003 non compatible folder.
 
To use another PST file (such as one from an earlier installation) and set
it to be the default for your current installation of Outlook, you will
first need to know the location and name of the PST file you'd like to use
as your new default. Then use the following directions
- Go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files > Add...
- Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close > OK to exit the
Options dialog
- Go to Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
- Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e-mail to the following
location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current
default Personal Folders file) > Finish
- Exit and Restart Outlook
- You can now close the previous default PST (R-click on that pst folder
while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername> Folders"). If you have
any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your new
default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you close
the old one.

Thank you for your reply. I have the info in the new pst folder. However the email is still getting delivered to the old pst folder even though I changed it per your instructions. Also, I cannot close the old pst folder. When I right click the close option is greyed out. Please reply

I'm getting lost here. By "new" PST do you mean the one in Outlook 2002
format and by "old" the one in Outlook 2003 format?

The new .pst is the one compatible with 97-2002. I copied my info into this file. When I export and then inport I still get the error message from my original posting to you. Please assist.
 
Error message? I don't have that thread.
There is no need to export or import, nor should you.
Just open the PST in the another version to get the data you need.

I do try to open the pst through Data File Management then add then I select the .pst that I copied over (created 97-2002 compatible). Get error on one computer with Outlook 2002 Windows 2000.
 
Data File Management is not used to open PST files. It shows the PST files
that are already open in your profile.
"Get error" is supposed to tell us something?
