Barry

I have upgraded from OfficeXP to Office2003 recently.

My problem lies now with the Address Book of
Outlook2003. Though I have entries in my Contacts
folder, everytime I click the Address Book icon, no
entries are seen. The same thing happens when I compose
a new e-mail that when I click the To: or Cc: buttons, no
Address Book entries could be found.

How can I possibly make this work? What and when should
I restore?

My deep appreciation for all the help you may extend with
regard to this matter.

Yours truly,

BARRY

You just need to reset your Outlook Address Book service.

Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

I had this problem a while ago and the solution below was suggested to
me, but I still couldn't get it to work.

The solution in my case was to just add a new contact. When I did that I
could see all of my contacts again. The newly added contact can then be
deleted.

If Russ's suggestion doesn't work, hopefully this one will.

Interesting. Can you remember what caused the problem in the first place and
whether your Outlook Address Book was configured to display the correct
Contacts Folder?

No, I never found out what caused the problem. One day the contacts were
there, the next they were only visible in the Contacts folder. I
followed the suggested solution I got (same as you gave above), but the
Outlook Address Book was correctly configured and everyhing looked alright.

Then I tried to add a new contact to see what of the following would
happen: (1) still no contacs visible; (2) only the new contact visible;
or (3) the old contacts would become visible again (though I didn't
really expect this to happen). To my surprise though, both all my old
contacts and the newly created one appeared, and since then I've never
had this problem again. Go figure!

Sorry about the weird-looking sender. I hope it is fixed with this post.
