Outlook 2002XP Freezes up after McAfee Install

I installed McAfee VirusScan (6.0) with a firewall a few
days ago; my system is clean, no viruses. However, when
I am running Outlook (2002 XP), it will freeze up on me
after a few minutes use. Have tried patches and
updates. Coincidence or not? Suggestions?
 
There was a post over the weekend that the latest updates from McAfee cause
a problem. Only solution from McAfee was to disable their software before
using Outlook and then start it after closing Outlook.
 
I ran into a related if not same problem. Down loading
the latest update (o/a 8/23/2003)for McAfee VirusScan
caused the Outlook and Outlook Express (OE) to timeout
searching for the email server, with error number
0x800CCC19. Reference to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
813518 mentioned disabling Norton AntiVirus scanning the
email. However, the VirusScan problem affected both the
POP3 and SMTP protocols. Disabling VirusScan or even
disabling the ScriptStopper and WormStopper didn't allow
OEto access the email server. Completely uninstalling
VirusScan allowed access for OE to the email. I've had no
problems with another computer running Norton AntiVirus
with it's latest updates and accessing the email server
using OE.
