Outlook 2002 - The messaging interface has returned an
unknown error - I get this every time I try to delete any
message, from any folder. The MS site states it's when a
PST is approaching 2GB, I have 1.9GB of mail after
emptying my deleted items folder - can't delete anything
else so can't reduce the size of the .PST, also can't send
or receive any mail at all.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Sev

Have you tried using Compact to reduce the size of the .pst file? The
2GB limit is a bit of a misnomer; it refers to the decimal value.
However, whatever you are using to size the .pst file may be using 1024
bytes per kilobyte instead of 1000, in which case the max size of the
..pst file is 1.87 GB. If compacting doesn't reduce the .pst enough, you
might have to run the Inbox Repair tool (scanpst.exe). You may even
have to use Microsoft's PST2GB truncation tool to lop off part of the
..pst file to get it small enough to get handled. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296088.

And, yes, you CAN make you .pst smaller by using AutoArchive to move old
items into an archive .pst folder. You can even open the archive .pst
file in Outlook so you can also search through it.

Cool. That's solved it for me. Just Archived off a load
of old mails and I'm up and running again.
Thanks.
