Hi,

I recently (and regretfully) added the update to SP3 for my Microsoft Office
XP for Small business.

For the last two or so years, I have been using the same settings in
Outlook, and now Outlook will send, but not recieve (or download) messages
that are waiting into it's mailbox.

I have checked my configuration, and all settings are correct. I even get
the Test Messages on my email server (waiting for download) after I have
sent them.

I attempted to remove the complete Office program from my system so that I
could "revert" back to the SP1 version of Outlook I was previously running,
without problems. But, I am unable to completely "clean" Microsoft Office
from my hard drive and my problems still exist.

I would appreciate any suggestions to resolve this. I am out of ideas!!1

Do you have a firewall installed? Is it allowing outlook to connect? If you
create a new profile, does it work?

I have the same problem but I'm running XP on SP-1.
It all started when I was able to get a 2-way cable service last month
I can send but cannot receive. After talking to six people at my ISP they said that it was a software problem and gave me the Microsoft help number. Microsoft sent me to Dell as my outlook is OEM installed.
After signing up for a year's service support, Dell said that Outlook cannot find the ISP server and sent me back to the ISP.
The technician at the ISP had to escalate the problem and someone would get back to me in 24 hours. It's now over 72 hours and still no help

Someone HHEEEEEELLLLLPPPPP !! Please.

Thank you for the reply,

I use MacAfee Firewall. I did turn the Firewall off and tried Outlook
without sucess; Then I confirmed that Outlook was allowed to communicate
with my connecitons anyway it wanted.

I want to make sure this is understood. Outlook worked great for
approximately two (2) years with this same computer and configuration. But
once I applied SP3, it will no longer send nor recieve. Although, the
"Test" messages generated by Outlook send fine, but they cannot be
downloaded into Outlook, they stay in my mailbox on the server waiting
(along with approximately 20 or so others).

I am not sure what you are referring to when you say create a new profile.

In my attempts to resolve my problems, I deleted all email profiles and
re-installed them. Just did it again this A.M., to make sure I did not miss
anything.

Help! Totallly frustrated!!

the version number of the outlook.exe changes and that can cause problems
with firewalls blocking it as it's not the same outlook they know to allow.
Testing the connection works slightly differently and it's not unusual for
it to work and outlook to not work.

Hi Diane and thanks again!

I did a double (quadruple?) check.

I removed all references of Outlook from the Firewall then added Outlook
with unlimited access to the Internet.

Still have the same problems. ;-(((

Hi Everyone and thanks for all of the help.

Here was my solution and my "assesment" of the problem.

Apparently, the update created problems with Word Perfect.

I ran the "Detect and Repair" from the "Help" menu within Outlook, then ran
Word Perfect to repair IT'S registery entries and everything works great.

If you want a technical explanation, you are out of luck, cause I have no
idea what it fixed.

All I can tell you is it works. Lost my email and contacts, but I have a
back-up from when the problem started. (thought ahead).

Take Care and thanks again!
