I've looked at the Tools>Options section of Outlook 2002 SP3 for the answer but I can't find it. When I select an incoming email the header and a couple of lines of the message content is displayed. I ONLY need the message highlighted and NOT automatically expanding to allow the display of 2-3 lines of subject text. How is this changed? I ran into it mucho-moons ago, but I can't find it.

Tom

You are seeing "Auto Preview" (which is different from the Preview Pane). You can turn it off by
clicking View|Auto Preview.

THanks for the update Athena! Here's the situation. You've pointed me into the right direction, but everytime I download (primarily on a new launch of Outlook or after it 'sleeps') I get the auto-preview on the message(s) I've selected. I can turn auto-preview off, but why "now" is it automatically turning on to auto-preview and how do I turn it off "permanently"? I have McAfee antivirus enabled all the time and live all the time, fyi.
TIA,
Tom

turn off the AV scanning and see if it leaves preview off.. also, try
creating a custom view that doesn't use the autopreview and apply it to the
folder.

Re you using the MSN Outlook connector or some other add-in? I ask because the MSN Outlook Connector forces Auto-Preivew on and
will also apply that to all IMAP folders if it is designated as the default account.
